Bonnes Mares Brilliance: Roumier Mugnier Vogue - Rare Vintages Await!

Today’s offer is a selection of great bottles from one of Burgundy’s mythical Grand Cru vineyards. With a history as a wine producing property stretching back at least a millennium, a wine from Bonnes Mares should be on any Burgundy lover’s wish list.

Due to the intricacies of inheritance laws, there are no fewer than 19 producers making wine from this 37-acre property. Today we focus on Roumier, Mugnier, and Vogue, definitely part of the upper echelon of wines produced from the vineyard.

Of particular note, we have 17 bottles of the highly scored 2009 Roumier Bonnes Mares. A wine of the vintage candidate in a fantastic vintage, the Wine Advocate surmised that it may be better than the Musigny Roumier produced in the same year. We have the best price in the US on this clear standout, these would be a great addition to any Burgundy- centric cellar.

We also have a bottle of the 1999 from all three producers, all three at the lowest price in the country. This is a unique opportunity to experience what each of these producers can do in Bonnes Mares under optimal conditions.

2009 Roumier Bonnes Mares

"Roumier’s 2009 Bonnes-Mares is without question one of the wines of the vintage. Firm yet beautifully integrated tannins provide the backdrop for the highly nuanced, expressive aromas and flavors that emerge from the glass. All the elements are in the right place in this extraordinary, moving wine. At times the Bonnes-Mares comes across as very powerful, at other times it is quite sensual. In other words, it is pure magic in the glass. Burgundy fans will flock to the Musigny because of its rarity but there is a very real possibility that the Bonnes-Mares will outshine it over time. Mugnier Bonnes Mares 1999

While ripe and approaching its full aromatic maturity, the nose remains agreeably fresh, spicy and solidly complex with aromas of black cherry and plum where added elegance is present in the form of soft floral nuances. There is good richness and vibrancy to the delicious middle weight flavors that offer equally good depth and excellent length on the balanced finish where the supporting tannins are largely, if not completely, resolved. This is an exceptionally pretty effort that is drinking perfectly now though should hold at this plateau for years to come. Lovely. Tasted twice in the last few months with consistent notes.
